Construction and Tourism
Following the destruction of New cultural centre in Little BayMontserrat’s main infrastructure on the southern side of the island, construction has featured heavily in the economy due to redevelopment. However, in the island’s Sustainable Development Plan tourism is highlighted as the sector that is key to Montserrat’s economic recovery.

An essential part of this strategy is the development of north of the island, in particular Little Bay, to provide additional accommodation and more facilities for tourists. In addition, the new parliament building and a multi purpose sports centre will be constructed in the area. The Little Bay development will be the responsibility of the Montserrat Development Corporation which will be established later this year.

Mining and other opportunities:
Mining of some of the volcanic material for export has become a new economic activity and there are doubtless more opportunities for entrepreneurs to take advantage of the changes that are occurring on the island.
