Climate: The South Atlantic high-pressure cell and the equatorial trough control the climate of St Helena. Despite the island’s locality within the tropics, its climate is kept mild and equable by the southeast trade winds. The trade winds blow almost continuously making our weather very changeable Temperatures in Jamestown range between 20°C - 320C in the summer and 150C - 260C in the winter. The temperatures in the central areas are, on average, 5°C - 60C lower.

Political System: St Helena is governed under the provisions of the Constitution of 1988. This provides that the Governor, currently Michael Clancy, presides over the Executive Council.
Executive Council comprises three ex officio members – the Chief Secretary, the Financial Secretary and the Attorney General – and five elected members from the Legislative Council nominated by
Legislative Council and appointed by the Governor to serve as Chairmen of the five Council Committees.
Legislative Council comprises the three ex officio members of Executive Council, twelve elected members and the Speaker who is elected by the Legislative Council.
